Details
Jack Porter was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up camping, surfing, fishing, and playing sports of all kinds. As he grew older he followed his love for the mountains to Colorado where he attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Atmospheric and Ocean Science.

During his time in Colorado and when not in class or at rugby practice, Jack developed a deeper passion for fly fishing and photography, spending his free time camping, hiking, and fishing all over the state. After graduating, Jack followed his passions and has had the privilege of working and honing his skills as an expert fly fishing guide and photographer in many unique and remote areas of the world, including:
-
Alaska (at a float plane camp on the Nushagak River, fishing on the river and in surrounding creeks and lakes for trout, grayling, dolly vardin, and salmon);
-
Argentina (at a remote lodge in Patagonia, targeting trout on lakes, spring creeks, and rivers, and also out of Buenos Aires on the Rio de la Plata targeting golden dorado);
-
Uraguay (various destinations, targeting golden dorado and payara);
-
Mexico (innovating fly fishing techniques for targeting blue water species like striped marlin, wahoo, and tuna, as well as fly fishing inshore for species like rooster fish, snapper, snook, and grouper in complex mangrove systems and shallow water); and
-
Wyoming and Montana (across both states and on lakes and rivers in and around the National Parks, targeting a variety of trout).
Jack has guided fly fishing enthusiasts who have travelled to fish with him from all over the globe, and he has established an extensive network of diverse fly fishing clients and friends. As a guide, he has been sponsored by numerous major companies in the industry.
In addition to seizing every opportunity to photograph the fishing action and natural beauty available to him while guiding, Jack has also honed his photography skills during his extensive world travel, including while in Thailand, the Philippines, Australia, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, and across Europe and the United States. Jack’s photographs have been published in print and on-line by a variety of magazines, sponsor companies, and in advertising for a number of clothing, fishing, sunglass, and outdoor gear related companies.
For the fishing lodges, camps, and destinations where Jack has worked, he has contributed significantly and consistently to the development and ongoing evolution of each company’s advertising campaigns and content. His photographs (taken by him, and also of him while fishing) are widely displayed in social media advertising as well as on the company websites including laspampaslodge.com, westernalaskasportfishing.com, urbandoradoanglers.com , loslocosfishing.com and on the company Instagram accounts (including @urbandoradoanglers, @laspampaslodge, @westernalaskasportfishing.)
When Jack isn't working as a guide or behind a camera, he is likely traveling, surfing, hiking, fishing, or and spending time with his friends and family.
